#ARAN HEDGE SCHOOL #MADE TO LAST
Welcome to our happy place!
It's Aran knitting morning, noon and night for us.
This 'original' of the species is a three ply Aran (worsted) weight knitting wool, proudly spun in Donegal since knitting began. This selection has been chosen and quality checked by Edel. Besides Aran it makes wonderful interior products (Our Ulster Blanket) and knits beautiful in all plain knitting too, stockinette, garter stitch, moss, double moss.
Depending on your project and needle choice it will fall between 16-20 stitches per 4 ins (10 cm) square knitting width, tested on stockinette.
Our needle preference is 5mm for Aran body work with either a 4mm or 4.5 mm needle on bands.
Yarn will deliver in 250gram hanks,
Yardage 450 yards (410 metres) per 250g
Care as for all wool products.
Usually in stock to ship the same week.
To make a crew neck Aran sweater up to a size 44in chest and 27ins long you will need to purchase four. Most of our sweaters weigh between 800-950 grams in this yarn (4 hanks).
While our sweater patterns are a work in progress, check out the Success scarf or the Love scarf, both aran patterns by Edel at Knitfield Ireland on Ravelry and also the Veronica Poncho pattern on Ravelry. We will be happy to send you a complimentary download of one pattern with a purchase of this yarn.

Ethically sourced fleece and spun in Donegal for generations.

How to care for me
Maybe you’ve never owned one of me before?
Here’s my experience so far;
I’d prefer not to be stuck in that dark press but when I must go in there just roll me up loosely first.
I don’t need much washing although my Italian cousins say that I’m a gorgeous natural thing and washing improves me!
When washing make it no higher than 30 degrees and please only a wool recommended detergent. Squeeze all the water out after handwashing me, even roll me up in a towel to do this! Dry me flat on my back.
Keep direct sunlight away from my cables!
Edel and many of her long-term clients machine wash my friends. Hopefully they never put them in the drum at higher than 30 degrees or with nasty biological stuff!!!! The horror.
I’m terrified of the tumble dryer, please never do that to me.
Through Summer if you don’t need me (I hope you will), store me in an airtight zip bag please and I’ll get a rest with no disruption. I hope to spend a lifetime with you, but if you want to give me to a friend or send me to a charity store for a break that’s OK.
My wool is so healthy to wear and antibacterial, plus you’ll be living off the compliments.
